The first day at Zhuo Dao Quan Middle School was not so bad. I have a buddy who is called Tu Ke. The classroom was rather small and the pupils squeezed inside. There is a total of 58 students in the classroom! When I first entered the classroom, many of the pupils crowded around me and asked me tons of questions. They were surprised that we could speak Mandarin fluently. They were very cute! The lessons were boring as I could not understand what the teacher was saying. I hope it will be better tomorrow :)

Today was the day we had our classroom experience! The classroom had 61 students in it! I did not understand the lessons as they were conducted in Mandarin but I managed to see the differences between their classroom and my classroom. The school uses blackboard and chalk instead of whiteboard and markers. They had few lights switched on conserve energy. The tables and chairs are wooden. The students were very active during breaktime but they concentrate during lessons.

We had breakfast and then headed to Zhuo Dao Quan Middle School. The classroom experience was so fun. The school has a lot of pupils, about 2000. One class has 50 pupils. Singapore classroom has only 40 students but the classroom size is about the same. After lessons at the middle school, we went for lunch. Following that, we went to WIPE to attend our physical training. The boys learnt Wushu and basketball while the girls learnt sports dance. It was hard. I do not like dancing. One and a half hour later, we ended out training. Everyone had fun today but it came with a price, fatigue!!!!!
Lim Wei Hui, Desmond (2A3)
Their classroom is smallest than our Singapore classrooms. When I joined the class, they were reading aloud. The Wushu Hall at WIPE is more conducive than our training ground in school. I learnt Wushu skills from the very experienced masters and will impart my knowledge to my fellow SGS Wushu members.
Toh Yu Xiang (2E3)
Today we went to WIPE to begin our Wushu training. I was very excited when I saw my Wushu coach’s master and his students perform. We learnt new Wushu skills and it was very fun. But when the training was over finally, my legs had no strength at all. My legs are very painful now. The next training will be even harder. I wish my legs will heal soon as there is morning jog tomorrow.
Chia De Han (2E4)
I met my buddy in school today. I had three lessons with the class. In the afternoon, we went for our physical training. I joined four other boys to train in basketball. The coach is very kind and very patient. Though Angus did not know how to play basketball, the coach still taught him patiently. After the training, we had a match. I fell but recovered very quickly. I bore with the pain. After that, we went back to the hotel.
Yip Poh Mun (2E4)
In the morning, we headed to Zhuo Dao Quan Middle School. My buddy’s name is Angela. She is a nice girl and she is two years younger than us. I went to her classroom for lessons together with Jesslin, Yi Lin and Yan Ling. Her class had a total of 58 pupils all squeezed into one classroom. I am fortunate that my school has only 40 pupils and our classroom is bigger than theirs. I also noticed that that their classrooms do not have fans and their desks were small. The first lesson was Mathematics. All their worksheets and textbooks were all printed in Mandarin so we did not understand them. In the afternoon, we went to do sports dance. It was quite fun as it was new to me. Lastly, I am lucky to be a Singaporean!
Adam Lim Jun Ting (2E4)
Today we went to Zhuo Dao Quan Middle School. I went to a class of 60 pupils. The classroom is smaller than the classroom in Singapore. I attended Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Mandarin classes. I did not understand what was going on. After lunch, I had basketball training with Soon Huat, Angus, Aloysius and De Han. We had fun!
Patricia Ng Hui Yi (2E4)
My buddy’s name is Niu Xue, Joy. She brought me to her classroom. After that, we had to introduce ourselves to the class that has 50 students. It was very embarrassing but they still clapped for us. We attended a few of their lessons such as Science, Maths and Chinese. The school also went to the track and field to do some taiji. It was quite fun. The pupils also asked me some questions. They asked me where Singapore is as they do not know. A few of them are also quite envious of our school and recess duration as their lessons are very long. I am very happy that we are going tomorrow again.

After breakfast today, we rushed to the school where we had a simple welcome ceremony by the school management. I was then introduced to my buddy. Then we headed to the classroom for lessons. First was English class, followed by Maths, Chemistry and Physics. After lunch, we had a nap. Then we went has basketball training. Haha, I have not played it for a long time.

The classroom is very small and there are many pupils in there. Lunch was very good. The training is very hard and tiring.
Tan Jian Kuo (2E2)
Today my hair was cut. I was extremely sad. But Miss Lee and Aloysius comforted me and I felt better. Thanks, Ms Lee and Aloysius. In the secondary school, I feel warmly welcomed by the school. There is a girl whose name is Pi Yu. She is very tall and strong girl. She is very friendly. I look forward to making more friends. Wushu was fun today.

Today morning jog was cancelled. Therefore, we could wake up a little later. Tomorrow we will have the morning jog. We then went to the school and were introduced to our buddy. I realized that my buddy is two years younger than me. Their school is very big but very old. In my class, only one fan is switched and only half of the lights available were switched on. The first lesson was English. When I walked into the classroom, everyone stared at me. I found out that every lesson is 45 minutes and after each lesson, there will be a 10 minutes break. The PE lesson was totally different. We marched!

Carol Chin Xin Yi (2E4)
Today we went to Zhuo Dao Quan Middle School. There is another group of students from Singapore. They are from Dunman High School. We attended lessons with the Secondary Two pupils of the school. The class I was assigned to has about 58 students but their classroom is about the same size as ours! Their lessons start at 7.40 am and end at 5.20pm every day. I attended English, Maths, Chemistry and Physics today with the pupils. It was difficult for me to understand as they were conducted in Mandarin. At 3pm, we headed to WIPE to have our training in sports dance.
Soh Khee Siang Angus (2E4)
I went to Zhuo Dao Quan Middle School today. I was surprised to see how crammed it is. I learnt to appreciate my life in Singapore. We also went to WIPE to learn how to learn basketball and I am going to train harder.
Aloysius Lim Bai Jun (2E3)
Today we had breakfast and went to school. It was quite alright but my buddy did not accompany me all the time. Later we went back to the hotel for lunch. When we went back to our room, I asked the Wushu coach if I could go with him and the Wushu boys to buy sports apparel. I was disappointed when he said no. Then I slept till 2.45pm and then started my basketball training. We trained with boys as old as 17 years old. It was tough but fun. It was worth it. Lastly, Jian Kuo cut his hair and he looked so neat.
Tan Dolbie (2E3)
I have learnt that it is tough to be a student in China. There are 60 students squeezed into a classroom. The students have to squeeze together and their desks are so small. I feel that the students are very serious in class unlike my class. Haha! I found out that they do not know much about other countries. They think that all other countries are like China. They think that Singapore has 4 seasons like China.
Lim Li Jun (2E3)
I have learnt that in China, lessons are conducted in Mandarin. Even English lessons are conducted in Mandarin. I would not be able to follow the lessons if I do not follow the teacher’s teaching. Even though there lessons are interesting, I would not want to have lessons in the school for a long time. Their lesson would end immediately when the bell rings. I am very scared to go there again tomorrow. In my class, I am the only Singaporean student and I am scared.

I have learnt that we should not be picky about what we have, where we stay in and the school we go as the school in Wuhan is very old and not as big as our classroom in Singapore. Their tables and chairs are quite dirty and they have to clean it before they can sit down. They are really kind by helping me clean the table. Today’s lessons, especially English, were interesting. Some of the pupils also do not know the meaning of the words written on the board. During music lesson, we, the Singaporean students were very happy as we could be judges to see who sang the best. We then went to WIPE for out training in sports dance. At first, I thought it was very boring but I found it fun in the end. I have learnt one more thing in Wuhan.

Today I went to Zhuo Dao Quan Middle School to experience how they study in China. I attended English, Chinese and Maths lessons. I do not really understand Maths as it was in Mandarin. The classroom is very small but had 58 students! After lunch, we went to WIPE for sports dance. It was tiring at first but I enjoyed it finally.
