It has been an exciting and rather tiring day for us. We started on our journey at 6am in the morning from Singapore to Wuhan and spend a whooping 14 hours on travelling! However, we (both teachers and students) definitely had a good time bonding with each other. I certainly got many opportunities to interact with many students and got to know them better throughout the day.
As we board CZ352 from Singapore to Guangzhou, I was seated beside Yu Xiang. Yu Xiang was very excited and curious with the happenings on the plane (from the taking off, landing, food to be served, electronic gadgets available to dealing with air pressure). Yu Xiang's excitement was certainly infectious as I was commenting that it made me remember the first time I took an aeroplane! Generally, I am heartened to see the students well-behaved during the flight (of cos with the disciplinarian Miss Lee around, haha).
As we reached Guangzhou airport for the transfer to Wuhan, we encountered a minor hiccup :(
The flight was delayed.... So we ended up chatting as we waited patiently (surprisingly) for the plane. I learnt that Dolbie is actually my former student's cousin. What a small world! And the students were asking about their science combinations as well... Haha... After-effects of the science talk from wednesday's assembly. Well, as I always stressed, pick the combination that you have the aptitude, interest and committment for.
We finally reached the hotel (YinHu Hotel) at 8pm after an hour's bus ride from the airport. Had dinner... well, the food is quite good (except that the portions may be too large for the ladies to finish). For proof pls see the photo above... Patricia is hiding from it... haha
Took a walk subsequently with the students as they wanted to call their parents to 'bao ping an'. This was when I got to know Seshan much better. He was walking with a little difficulty due to his ankle and he shared about the challenges that he faced during his childhood years. What I can say to him is: You are a very mentally-strong boy, Seshan. I am impressed by the values and strengths that he possessed. Certainly hope that his ankle can get better after tonight's rest.
We will be visiting the Three Gorges Dam tomorrow. I believe that it would be a very educational, interesting and impactful day. After teaching so much to the students over the past two weeks, I believe the authentic experience will certainly help them to learn better and feel the impact of what they have learnt.
So much for today... Look out for more updates from us tomorrow!
