Students' Learning Journal - Day 1 (29 Aug 2008)

Aloysius Lim Bai Jun (2E3)
What I have learnt was that the food they eat, the way people drive and how people ride their bikes without helmets is quite special. On the way to Wuhan, it was quite interesting. We could see people snoring in the plane and I spent almost 30 minutes to find my way to the macdonalds.I guess we really don’t know our directions and when we got to Macdonalds, we found it hard to order as we do not know how to read. Maybe we have to improve our Chinese..

Ong Ying Yu (2E4)
Yesterday, what really captured my attention was the difference between the Changi Airport & the Guangzhou Airport. Changi Airport is like a giant shopping centre, and the air-conditioning is cooler than Guangzhou and Wuhan Airport. At Guangzhou Airport, the building was very warm. But like Changi Airport, the food was very expensive. Upon arriving at Wuhan, I realized there were many “run-down” buildings. Their high rise buildings were so much lower than the ones in Singapore.

Adam Lim Jun Ting (2E4)
Today need to wake up so early, =.=” go airport checkin… The whole day on the plane was very boring. Their plane is so small. The toilet was very loud when flushing. Slept in the first plane for awhile only. The second plane I want to sleep but Angus kept disturbing me !

Lee Soon Huat (2E4)
Felt very excited for the plane flight as it was my first flight in my life. When boarding the plane, I felt very scared as it was my first flight. But during the take-off, I felt less nervous and more excited. During the journey, felt bored as there was nothing that I can do. After the whole journey, we finally arrived at the hotel at Wuhan Sports College. Felt quite disappointed as the hotel shown in the notes is different from the one I am seeing now.

Patricia Ng Hui Yi (2E4)
Guangzhou airport is very different from Singapore. Compared to Singapore, it’s about twice as large. The food there is also very pricey. The road is very bumpy.

Jesslin Tan Jie Ling (2E4)
Taking an airplane makes me puke. China has lots of fluffy clouds. Life is a lot harder in China, people cross the road regardless whether it is a “green man” or “red man”. Therefore crossing the road in China is very dangerous.

Ong Yi Lin (2E4)
I found that there are no seats at the bus stops. Everybody has to stand to wait for the bus. I saw a woman carrying a huge sack over her shoulder. It looks heavy. Life is hard in China.

Carol Chin Xinyi (2E4)
When I first reached Guangzhou airport, the difference that I spotted was that it had many restaurants and branded shops which Changi Airport does not have. Although Guangzhou airport is bigger than Changi Airport, I still think that the structure is more elegant and beautiful. The food at Guangzhou airport is not cheap as one bowl of noodles can cost up to SGD9.50.

Toh Yu Xiang (2E3)
This is my first time I take an airplane. The feeling on the plane is great. When the airplane started flying,I didn’t feel good and it was worse than I had expected. On my second flight when the air-plane had just taken off, the person behind me started snoring loudly. It was an unforgettable experience.

Seshan S/O Veerappan(1E1)
At the Changi airport, I was so excited as I was going to a country I had not gone before. When I alighted from the plane I was full of excitement. I went to the Yin Hu Hotel in Wuhan and checked in with my roommate Shangsheng. All the signboards were written in Chinese, but some of my friends helped to translate. The momento that I will bring back to Singapore is the knowledge I had gained in Wuhan.

Ang Shangsheng (1E1)
The flight is very scary. I felt very dizzy on the plane. The airport is many more times bigger than our airport. When I reached the hotel, I was shocked by the hotel. But when I went into it, it was not so scary. I think the food is nice but too much.

Lim Wei Hui Desmond (2A3)
I learnt about what cloud is made up of. It was the first time I flew through the clouds. I learnt that electronic devices must not be used on the plane and the reason for it.

Yip Poh Mun (2E4)
It took about the whole day from Singapore to Wuhan. In Guangzhou, the airport was very huge and spacious. The food was expensive compared to Singapore.Singapore’s traffic is safer in Wuhan. The road in Wuhan is very bumpy.

Tan Song Leng Edwina (2E3)
The China Southern Airplane is so small. This is the first time I am taking a plane. At first, I think that it is very small and it would not stable. But after it took off, I liked it. It seemed like we are flying in a small room. When we took the domestic flight, we waited for a long time for it. When we finally boarded the plane, we found out that we had no seats as the aeroplane did not have our seat numbers. The airline made a mistake. It was the first time I experience such a thing.

Tan Dolbie (2E3)
I have learnt that Singapore’s airport is smaller as we have different terminals while the airport in Guangzhou had only one terminal. I prefer Singapore’s Changi Airport as the fast food restaurant is easier to find unlike China.

Lim Li Jun (2E3)
I have learnt that whatever things we do, we have to think first before doing it. If you do something without thinking, there would be unexpected consequences. I have eaten too much before I boarded the plane. Luckily, I did not vomit.

Ong Yan Lin (2E3)
Before boarding the plane, I thought the plane looked very small compared to other planes I have taken before. At the Guangzhou Airport, we had a hard time finding food to eat. When we took the domestic flight, we found that the plane did not have our seat numbers. We had to sit at empty seats. I was happy to sit next to Dolbie in the end.

Angus Soh Khee Siang (2E4)
After the long journey to reach Wuhan, which lasted thirteen hours, we finally reached our destination. This is the first time I am visiting China. I was surprised to see that the way they cook their food is so special. I was really surprised when we were on the streets. The things were so different. Singapore is smaller.

Chia De Han (2E4)
It was my first time taking an aeroplane and I felt very excited. After the three hour flight, I felt tired. We reached Guangzhou airport and we had one hour of free time. My friends and I wanted to eat McDonalds but we could not find it. We finally found it after thirty minutes. When it was my turn to order food, I did not know what is fillet-o-fish meal in Chinese. Luckily, there is a board showing the meal. We quickly ate our food and went back to the meeting place.

Tan Jian Kuo (2E2)
The Guangzhou airport is extremely huge. Changi Airport cannot be compared to it. I spent twenty minutes looking for McDonalds. It was very boring on the domestic flight to Wuhan. I am satisfied with the hotel in Wuhan. I am looking forward to tomorrow.
